Oct 13, 2014 · It's written so even I can understand it and he outlines some diagnostics: "An engine that will turn over or crank, but does not start, has a defect in one of three basic areas: #1 compression #2 ignition #3 air/fuel. All three can be quickly checked to identify which vehicle system is defective."
Things he has checked. cranks over between 400-500 rpm - yes. Spark - yes. Fuel Pressure - 58. Air flow into intake - no obstructions. Connections to sensors on motor - ok. Will not start or even sputter with starting fluid. More to do tonight, I am going over to help and bringing my running Ranger. Drain fuel and replace.2016 1000 turns over but wont start. If the pump doesn't run for about 3 seconds when you cycle the key on, then you need to find out why. Sometimes it's just a faulty relay or a bad connection. I sprayed ether in the intake and it started and ran for about 1 second. Because its hard to drive and spray started fluid at the same time I need to go further. 4. Took the Ranger on 2-3 mile 40mph cruise to try to get fresh fuel into it. 5. Starting cycling the fuel pump (key to first position but not cranking) twice before trying to start. 6. Added Battery Tender since voltage on dash display dipped to 10.8 or so when cranking (I really don't know if this is normal or not).

If it won't turn over I wouldn't start with the spark plugs. I would have the battery load tested and check the starter components (Key switch, solenoid, and starter). Dealer told me he feels it is poorly designed system for relieving the pressure when starting the motor. When you stop the motor at just the right spot, the compression is to high for the starter, but once you bump over it, it goes just fine.

Everything could work (lights, winch, etc.) But if the volts aren't high enough it won't crank, only click. You can check fuses and relays, will be a cheaper and easier fix than a new battery. It has great fuel pressure, strong battery the stator checks out when testing and I’ve since replaced coil plugs and wires. I’m stumped.
